Ten on Tuesday

So I am already breaking some of my Lent 10, but it was a bad day. So be warned.... the post will be negative. Feel free to move on to happier blogs. My feelings won't be hurt.

1. Arrived at work about 7:20 (not required to be there until 8:15).

2. Had many, many confused faces when trying to teach 4th graders how to prove one when adding fractions with different denominators.

3. Was told by one student that his dad thinks I am ridiculous. Really?..... well I'd like to see him try to make fractions make sense to fourth graders, when he probably didn't learn this same stuff until about 6th or 7th grade. And... I mean really make it make sense instead of teaching random rules that they will just have to be retaught every year because I think kids need to learn to be problem solvers instead of learn to solve problems. To be a problem solver you need to have understanding. So excuse me for being ridiculous.

4. Have about 4 students who are REPEATEDLY not turning in homework or assignments because they have no idea how to organize themselves at the end of the day. Even when I spend 15 minutes at the end of everyday going over what should be written in their planner, and what papers should be in their homework folder. And yet somehow this is my fault?

5. Usually get about 10 minutes (20 on a good day) to eat lunch because I spend my lunch time helping students or keeping them accountable for their work. I can't even remember what the teacher's lounge looks like, but you can see all the food stains on my big desk calendar.

6. Left my room and desk in total chaos because I had to make it to a Dr. appointment, and then proceeded to wait for 45 minutes to be seen. Although I did sit and grade the entire time (look at that, a positive).

7. Went back to school to gain some order in my life, because there will be no time to organize tomorrow because I have no planning time on Wednesdays. Yep..... straight through with my ten minute lunch and 28 fourth graders. Anyway, I didn't leave until about 7:20. Oh.... look at that a 12 hour day. Am I a nurse, no. I think they only work 4 days when they work 12 hour shifts. Am I a lawyer? No.... not according to my paycheck. AHHHH!

8. Missed dinner with my family.... missed feeling grateful..... missed "talking buckets". Well you can see what emptied my bucket today.

9. Got home in time to read books, and put kids to bed. Aren't I lucky to have one of those jobs that allows for so much family time? Or so I hear.....

10. DAMN JOB!

For anyone who hung in there with me.... Thanks for "listening" while I vented. Going to bed now. Going to try to wake up with a smile. Wish me luck!
